What to Expect

What to Expect with ZEISS SMILE

Determining if ZEISS SMILE is Right for You

Your journey to clearer vision begins with a refractive surgery consultation.

Your eye doctor will perform baseline tests and discuss your options to determine if ZEISS SMILE is right for you.

Preparing for ZEISS SMILE

Once you’re confirmed as a candidate, your eye doctor will complete detailed measurements to personalize your treatment. This includes:

  • Scans of the front surface of your eyes
  • Verification of your current prescription
  • A comprehensive eye health evaluation

Before surgery, your doctor may ask you to:

  • Stop wearing contact lenses a few days before surgery
  • Arrive with no makeup, lotions, or perfumes
  • Pick up your prescribed eye drops ahead of time from your pharmacy
  • Arrange for a driver to take you home after your procedure

The Day of Surgery

The ZEISS SMILE procedure typically takes 10–20 minutes in total.

  • Numbing eye drops are applied to ensure comfort.
  • The laser precisely creates a disc-shaped layer, called a lenticule, within the cornea — a process that takes less than 30 seconds.
  • Your surgeon gently removes this lenticule through a small opening, reshaping the cornea to correct your vision.

After Surgery Recovery

After your procedure, plan to rest for about 24 hours. Most patients can drive, work, wear makeup, and resume sports or exercise as soon as the next day, depending on your doctor’s recommendations.

Your eye doctor will schedule follow-up visits to check your healing and ensure your vision is improving as expected.
